Joe Schermie was an American bassist, best known for his work with the rock band Three Dog Night. He was born on February 12, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, and began playing bass during his teenage years. Schermie joined Three Dog Night in 1968 and played on many of their hit records, including "Joy to the World," "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)," and "Black & White." He was a member of the band until its disbandment in 1976. After Three Dog Night, Schermie continued to work as a bassist and session musician, playing with artists such as Richard Marx and Kenny Loggins. He passed away on March 26, 2002, at the age of 57.
